Adventures in Project Management
Welcome to your adventure in Project Management
As a novice Project Manager my approach was to make things up as I went along.

After learning how to do things 'properly', my approach was to cling to these frameworks and made each project work for them.

Discovering 'people' and that being a Project Manager is about delivering 'change' not 'things' made me realise the importance of balancing people and process and that 'project-speak' often hinders progress.

Learning the importance of experimentation in an unpredictable world, it became clear that planning too far in advance increases rather than decreases risk.

Many years of experience taught me how to lead, empower and trust people rather than manage them and their work.

And now, with a large selection of tools, techniques, frameworks and mindsets at my disposal I have started making things up as I go again. But this time, by leading, experimenting, learning and customising all the way.

Because projects are unique and the world is not stable, my single rule for delivering change is to continuously adapt my approach as the people, project and world shifts around me.

Leading through uncertainty is hard, so by sharing my personal stories and approach to teaching others, my hope is we all get better at leading change to make a better world.

Every day is a new adventure. See it as that, relish uncertainty, look for what you are learning and please enjoy your adventure.
